Phew...

Two things grab me about this instantly. There is some sort of absolute genuineness to this composition. It's extrmely romantic and beautiful in a very typical sense that usually doesn't get me.But him, I totally believe it. Beyond the composition is his performance. It is everything I want to hear. If I could really ask more of this music it would be for it to have the freedom of improvisation that I always deisre in live music.

Luckily,
Dave Douglas has taken care of that for me.

You can listen to Dave's version here, but I really suggest you go out and buy his album "The Infinite" immediatley.

  1. At about the point that we first met at Jim Cummings Hall, I was listening to the Rufus Wainwright album "Poses" almost non-stop.

I didn't know anyone outside of gay men who idolize Rufus and eclectic middle-aged women listened to him :)

(This is Courtney, by the way. Excellent dedication to daily blogging--I never have that much worthwhile to say!)

  2. Re: Dave Douglas....

There is also a very good version on the "Live at Jazz Standard" set....I forget which night, and another, perhaps the best, on the "Live at the Bimhaus" CD that is available only from Greenleaf Records.
