Phew...
Two things grab me about this instantly. There is some sort of absolute genuineness to this composition. It's extrmely romantic and beautiful in a very typical sense that usually doesn't get me.But him, I totally believe it. Beyond the composition is his performance. It is everything I want to hear. If I could really ask more of this music it would be for it to have the freedom of improvisation that I always deisre in live music.
Luckily,
Dave Douglas has taken care of that for me.
You can listen to Dave's version here, but I really suggest you go out and buy his album "The Infinite" immediatley.

I had almost forgotten all about this record until I came across this pleasant video. Worth watching all the related videos, there's liek 5 or so. Great song. Great drummer. Great band

Oooooohhh
If you're not familiar with Uri Caine, I'm excited for you.
This is some pretty heavy group interaction for a simple vamp section.
and if you are. I'm excited for you =)

I can't stop myself
Well, I just made this blog about an hour ago. I have decided I will make a post a day, or try at least.
However, tonight, I'm making two.
Partly because I can't sleep, and also because I have so many things that I want to share. This one though, this one really stands out. Not so much the performance, although it's great, but mostly the song. I've become such a song person over the last few years. It's like these little slices of life. I just really want the good ones to make my pie.
And, although making a blog post about Fleet Foxes is about as original as playing 'A Mili' on modern radio was all of last year, I still feel this deep personal connection to their music. It really is beautiful.
Also... attached to a performance at the Bowery Ballroom in New York they did an interview with last.fm.
The only reason I put this up is because 4:46 one of the guys says "there is no music theory".
It made me smile. And cringe. And then smile about cringing. Mostly just rambling.

Woo Ha
This track is bad is shit. This bass line is super funky, and the breaks basically wrote the book on how to drop a mute on an MPC in 1996.
Not only is the sample from the most obscure place, but it's reused in a completely angular way. Very sophisticated, yet so simple...
One commenter just posted ":46". That's all that really needs to be said.
